Ngā Toka Hauora

Ngā Toka Hauora Roopu function is to provide leadership, direction and expertise to Te Manawa Taki Board Governance group on matters pertaining to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Māori Health equity and tackling racism in the health system.

The members of this roopu are made up of leaders from across the five Te Manawa Taki DHBs within the Māori health teams - click here to meet the members.

Our Commitment

Ngā Toka Hauora wholeheartedly supports the commitment to Te Tiriti and Māori Health Equity in the Te Manawa Taki Regional Equity Plan.

Our Function & Role

The Role of the Ngā Toka Hauora Roopu is to share innovation, kaupapa Māori / Mātauranga Māori best practice and provide direction, leadership and expertise to Health Share that positively influences the direction and momentum of the Regional Equity Plan workplan.

Relationship and Resource

Ngā Toka Hauora is resourced to lead the regional equity approach:

  • Administration support allocated

  • Māori Health Director reporting line, responsibility & accountability to Ngā Toka Hauora.
  • Healthshare project management / resource for Ngā Toka Hauora work program activities

Priority Service Areas

The Service areas identified by Ngā Toka Hauora that align with their DHB priorities are:

  1. Child Health

  2. Mental Health
  3. Cancer Control
  4. Cardiac
  5. Māori workforce
  6. Māori investment and commissioning
  7. Hauora Intelligence

These seven areas also connect to the Te Tumu Whakarae and Whakamaua action plans.
