One patient, one record
Timely access to a complete source of accurate patient information is crucial to providing quality care in a modern health system. Incomplete or missing patient information increases costs, carries clinical risks, and negatively impacts the quality of patient care.
eSPACE, a clinician-led programme, is delivering the Midland Clinical Portal – a single point of access for patient information across the Midland region that is supported by unified clinical data repositories.
The Midland Clinical Portal is an electronic platform for managing health documentation relating to the care of individual patients across the Midland region. This means that all documents created about any patient anywhere in the Midland region will be visible, when required, to any Midland clinician, regardless of where in the region the patient presents for medical treatment.
In July 2017, eSPACE launched the Midland Clinical Portal Foundation Project, giving Midland clinicians read-only access to patient demographic information; in-patient, out-patient and emergency department events; some current electronic form data; national and local DHB alerts; and patient allergy information – all within the Midland Clinical Portal.
eSPACE is now working towards creating read/write capability within the Midland Clinical Portal, due between June and December 2019. Work to integrate other clinical data platforms, including the New Zealand e-Prescribing Service and St John is underway. Functionality to assist in clinical decision making is also being developed.
