One patient, one record
Timely access to a complete source of accurate patient information is crucial to providing quality care in a modern health system. Incomplete or missing patient information increases costs, carries clinical risks, and negatively impacts the quality of patient care.
Te Manawa Taki Regional Clinical Portal (MCP), is a clinician-led initiative providing a single point of access for Te Manawa Taki patient information that is supported by unified clinical data repositories.
The Regional Clinical Portal is an electronic platform for managing health documentation relating to the care of individual Te Manawa Taki patients. This means that all documents created about any Te Manawa Taki patient anywhere will be visible, when required, to any Te Manawa Taki clinician, regardless of where in the region the patient presents for medical treatment.
In July 2017, Te Manawa Taki Clinical Portal Foundation Project (formally Midland Clinical Portal Foundation Project) was launched, giving Te Manawa Taki clinicians read-only access to patient demographic information; in-patient, out-patient and emergency department events; some current electronic form data; national and local DHB alerts; and patient allergy information – all within the Clinical Portal.
Work to integrate the New Zealand e-Prescribing Service concluded with a successful roll out to all DHBs in the region in July 2019. Te Manawa Taki Clinical Portal has now got read/write capability being used at Bay of Plenty DHB and Hauora Tairāwhiti with Lakes DHB set to go live late 2021.
Functionality to assist in clinical decision making is also being developed.
